Voice (Dysphonia)
Having a voice gives us identity and power, agency and independence. With a voice we can “hold our own”.
35% of the spoken message is conveyed through vocal tone, pitch, loudness, inflection, resonance and vocal quality.
Our vocal mannerisms and ‘voice imprint’ uniquely identify us.
Assessment involves analysis of cranial nerve function, maxillo-facial structural status and physiology, voice power (vocal amplitude), pitch (frequency), duration and quality.
An appointment with an ENT (otolaryngology) and Speech Pathologist (in attendance) for an endoscopic evaluation of the pharyngeal status and condition, closure, wave form and amplitude of the vocal folds may be recommended.
